FORBIDDEN FOODS SUSHI MAKING GUIDE

Forbidden Foods Premium Sushi Kit includes all the essential tools and base ingredients to start the sushi making experience at home. Just add your own fresh fillings! This Sushi Kit provides the perfect experience to share with others as it includes four sets of plastic chopsticks so everyone can enjoy the sushi rolls you have created.

This Sushi Kit also includes a 200g portion of Forbidden Black Rice. Black rice is naturally grown black and has a striking colour and a deliciously nutty taste. The black rice gives you the chance to experiment in creating black rice sushi or mixing it in with the white rice if you choose.  Just remember the black rice will colour your white rice purple if you mix and cook them together.

 

PREPARATION STEPS: PREPARING WHITE AND BLACK RICE

 

  1. WHITE RICE
  1. Wash the white rice in clean water.
  2. Place 800g of white rice (3 cups) into rice cooker.
  3. Add 6 cups of water into rice cooker.
  4. Turn rice cooker on and bring to boil. Let simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Once rice is cooked pour 120ml of rice vinegar on top and stir through until rice has absorbed it.

 

  1. BLACK RICE (OPTIONAL)
  1. Wash the black rice in clean water.
  2. Place 200g of black rice (1 cup) into rice cooker.
  3. Add 2 cups of water into rice cooker.
  4. Turn rice cooker on and bring to boil. Let simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Once rice is cooked pour 30ml of rice vinegar on top and stir through until rice has absorbed it.

 

ROLLING SUSHI

 

  1. Place a piece of plastic wrap over the provided bamboo rolling mat. Ensure the bamboo mat is sitting on top of your chopping board facing horizontal to you. Then, position a sheet of yaki nori on top of the wrap.
  1. Using wet fingers, thinly spread approximately 1 cup of cooked white rice per sheet of nori. Ensure you leave a spare space on the top of the nori so you are able to close the roll completely.
  1. Place your ingredients in the center of your rice covered nori ensuring you do not overfill the roll.
  1. Delicately pick up the bottom of the bamboo mat so that it wraps over the sushi. Mould the ingredients into a firm sushi roll until just a few centimeters remain at the top.
  1. Using a small amount of water seal the top of the nori roll. To ensure your roll remains tightly wrapped, press the mat around the roll.
  2. With a sharp knife, cut the roll in half. Cut into smaller portions if desired.
  1. Serve your sushi portions on a plate or a platter and serve with soy sauce and wasabi provided. Enjoy!
